Sponsoring a Child Are you interested in sponsoring a child through Love SHACK? If so, please read on... The primary commitment of Love SHACK is to provide education to as many children as possible. This is crucial in helping them to take that step out of abject poverty. Your contribution will enable a child to go to school and will give him/her a brighter future. Our aim is to one day build a primary boarding school for 160 destitute children. In February 2003 the Kenyan government made primary school education free for the very first time. Since that, pupil attendance is not defined by age, and it is not unusual to find teenagers in primary classes. Sadly all that is free within this system is the teachers and the classrooms. The guardians of orphans still have to provide each child with a desk and chair, textbooks, exercise books, pens, pencils, uniform and transport. Each child also has to carry material for cleaning the classrooms such as brooms, mops, and soap. Plates, cups, spoons should also be provided at meal times. Guardians earn as little as 1,000 KSH a month (10 euro) and still have to pay their rent and feed their family before sending a child to school. In January 2008 the government agreed to subsidise secondary education in Kenya. Students still have an extensive shopping list each term and homeless boarding students still have to payfor accomodation. Given the opportunity, Kenyan children have a thirst for knowledge and true appreciation of the importance of education. Of the students we currently assist most are in the top 5 of their class. Since the establishment of Love SHACK in June 2004 we have been able to send many children to school. If you meet these children you hear them say they want to be doctors, lawyers, pilots, and accountants to name but a few professions. With your support we can make their dreams come true, and improve their lives in both the short and long term. If you decide to sponsor a child you will receive letters, photographs and school reports on their progress. Sponsoring a child is simply a matter of completing the sponsor application and standing order mandate forms below for your country of residence and send it by post to the corresponding address. Thank you
